Perioperative nurse leaders at the University of Pennsylvania decided to try getting back to basics. With help from the chief nursing officer, they convinced 120 operating room nurses, senior leadership staff, materials management, and hospital administration to accept their plan for changes that included a new protocol for scrubs. Leading and implementing meaningful change required authentic leadership, collaboration skills, communication, and partnership.

This webinar will highlight and describe how the culture was changed at a large institution and how changes were implemented to improve quality and add value to patient-centered care.

The Institute of Medicine has urged nurses to take charge of their practice.  Yet day to day observations of nursing staff might reveal poor professional behavior.  How do you change the culture at a large university hospital? Change is not considered a positive experience, and staff who resist change often ask, “why change what’s not broken?”
