Managing Surgical Supply Expense: Engagement at All Levels and Using Data Effectively

Vanderbilt University is a large, complex academic medical center performing more than 56,000 procedures per year. Recent efforts to increase transparency and engagement among staff and faculty have led to a supply cost reduction, with more than half of surgical cases at or below prior-year costs. This has been a multidisciplinary project involving everything from low-tech methods to custom informatics applications. In this webinar, you’ll learn about the processes we used to achieve our savings, including development of an off-site case cart operations center and a detailed custom pack review.

Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tennessee

Scott Strech, MBA, BSN, RN, has more than 25 years of experience in acute care. Prior to Vanderbilt, he held a variety of leadership and consulting roles with oversight of multiple cardiovascular services areas, including cardiac and vascular surgery, cardiac cath lab, electrophysiology lab, and inpatient nursing units. He has served as an adjunct professor at several universities, including Vanderbilt, with a focus on healthcare management and informatics, and he has spoken at national conferences.
