Complexities of Surgical Instrument and Endoscope Reprocessing - A FREE webinar sponsored by Boston Scientific
This presentation will give an overview of complex medical devices that pose a challenge to the sterile processing department, such as the recently spotlighted endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) duodenoscopes. The presentation will discuss the importance of training staff, using proper reprocessing equipment, and following the manufacturer’s instructions for use. Current recommendations for reprocessing specific surgical instrumentation and recent guidance from the FDA, as well as recommendations from industry leaders, will be discussed.

Mark Duro, CRCST, FCS
Mark Duro, CRCST, FCS, is director of sterile processing operations at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, a leader in orthopedics and official hospital of the Boston Celtics. Mark has been in sterile processing management for 20 years and is currently vice president of the Massachusetts Chapter of Central Services professionals. He has been a member of the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) since 1992 and is one of 34 Fellows. He has been the chairperson for IAHCSMM’s orthopedic council for the past 4 years and an IAHCSMM-approved instructor for the past 6 years. In 2012 he received IAHCSMM’s educator of the year award, and this year he was appointed to IAHCSMM’s Executive Board. Recently he was also appointed to the AAMI (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation) ST79 Advisory council, and he is on the AORN news advisory for sterile processing.
